Wasp Control Zurich – Professional Wasp Nest Removal
Most people notice a wasp nest before they see it: over a few weeks there is constant traffic at one point on the façade, something rustles inside the roller shutter box, or the terrace is suddenly busy with wasps all day.
On the phone we first work out what you are dealing with – a nest inside the building, a nest outdoors, or a colony that is only foraging. Then we discuss whether treatment is actually necessary and how it would be carried out.

Signs to look for
- Steady flight traffic in and out of one fixed opening in the façade or roof
- Scratching or rustling sounds inside a roller shutter box or ceiling void
- Papery nest wall visible under a roof overhang, balcony or in a garden shed
- A clear increase in wasps around seating areas and bins in late summer
Where we usually find them
- Roller shutter and blind boxes
- Roof soffits, attics and chimney cladding
- Balcony parapets and openings in the façade
- Garden sheds, log piles and tool stores
- Ground nests under paving slabs and in embankments
What to do now
- Keep your distance from the entry hole and cordon off the area
- Close windows near the nest and cover food and sweet drinks
- Tell everyone in the household, particularly children and allergy sufferers
- Call and describe the situation briefly – location, height, how accessible it is
What to avoid
- Attacking the nest with water, fire or a supermarket aerosol
- Sealing the entry hole – the colony will simply find a way indoors
- Working from a ladder close to an active nest
Is this urgent?
Nests at entrances, rodents in food areas or a sting risk for allergy sufferers are treated as urgent.
Risks if it is left
- Stings when approaching the nest entrance, especially after vibration or knocks
- Serious risk for anyone with a known insect venom allergy
- Conflict where nests sit directly at entrances, playgrounds or restaurant terraces
How we handle it
On site we identify the species and the exact position of the nest. Not every colony needs treatment: a free-hanging nest well away from paths and seating can often be left until it dies off naturally in autumn.
If treatment is required, it is applied precisely at the nest entrance with professional equipment and protective clothing. Where the nest is accessible, it is then removed so that no residue and no follow-on pests remain in the cavity.
For nests that are hard to reach – in roofs, ceiling voids or chimney shafts – we agree in advance what access is needed.
Wasp, hornet or honey bee?
Species matters, both legally and practically. Hornets are protected in Switzerland: a nest may only be treated or relocated with the appropriate permission and for good reason. Honey bee swarms are not a pest control job at all – they are handled by a beekeeper.
We identify the species before any treatment and tell you plainly when the right answer is to leave the colony alone.
- Common and German wasps: smaller, drawn to food and sweet drinks in late summer
- Hornets: much larger, calmer, protected – special rules apply
- Honey bees: swarm on branches or walls, referred to a beekeeper
Emergency wasp removal
A nest at a front door, above a children's play area or on a restaurant terrace is treated as urgent, as is any situation involving a diagnosed venom allergy in the household.
We are reachable by phone around the clock. The actual appointment is agreed on the call – we do not promise blanket response times we cannot keep.
Prevention
- Check roller shutter boxes and façade openings for gaps in spring
- Fit fine mesh to ventilation grilles and roof box openings
- Cover compost, sweet drinks and barbecue leftovers on the terrace
Wasps in and around Zurich
In the city of Zurich wasp jobs often involve older buildings with blind boxes and open roof cavities. Around Lake Zurich and in the Zurich Oberland it is more often garden sheds, log piles and ground nests in embankments. We work throughout the canton.

FAQ
Wasps – frequently asked questions
No. Nests far away from paths, seating and entrances can often be left in place – the colony dies off in autumn. We assess the situation on site and say so openly when no treatment is needed.
