Cockroach Control Zurich – Professional Treatment
Cockroaches are active at night, so the first sighting is often a single insect on the kitchen floor after the lights go on. By then a population is usually already established somewhere warm and humid.
The German cockroach in particular spreads along shared pipe runs between flats, which is why treatment has to consider the whole riser and not just one kitchen.

Signs to look for
- Single insects on floors or worktops at night, disappearing quickly into gaps
- Small dark droppings resembling coarse pepper near appliances and skirting
- Empty egg cases (oothecae) behind units and appliances
- A sweetish, unpleasant smell in heavily infested rooms
Where we usually find them
- Behind and under fridges, dishwashers and cookers
- Gaps behind kitchen units and around pipe penetrations
- Bathrooms, service shafts and heated boiler rooms
- Commercial kitchens, delivery zones and waste rooms
- Shared risers in apartment buildings
What to do now
- Photograph the insect if you can – species identification changes the approach
- Keep food sealed and empty waste more frequently
- Do not seal gaps yet; treatment needs to reach the harbourage
- Call us and say where and at what time of day you saw them
What to avoid
- Spraying with aerosols – it drives the population deeper into the building
- Deep-cleaning away all traces before the inspection
- Waiting to see whether it was a one-off, especially in a food business
Is this urgent?
Nests at entrances, rodents in food areas or a sting risk for allergy sufferers are treated as urgent.
Risks if it is left
- Transfer of pathogens onto food and work surfaces
- Allergic reactions to droppings and shed skins
- For food businesses: hygiene findings and reputational damage
How we handle it
First we identify the species. A native wood cockroach that has wandered indoors needs a completely different response from a German cockroach population.
Treatment uses gel bait and targeted application at the harbourages, combined with monitoring traps that show whether the population is falling.
For food businesses we document each step, and in apartment buildings we coordinate with the management so the riser is treated as a whole.
Prevention
- Keep the area around appliances clean, especially warm gaps behind them
- Empty waste regularly and close containers properly
- In commercial kitchens, run permanent monitoring rather than reacting late
Cockroaches in and around Zurich
In the city of Zurich cockroaches most often appear in apartment buildings with shared kitchen and bathroom risers and in dense restaurant districts. Treatment there only works if adjoining units are included.

FAQ
Cockroaches – frequently asked questions
Native wood cockroaches wander in from outside, especially in summer, and do not establish indoors. German cockroaches are smaller, stay near warmth and humidity, and reproduce quickly. We identify the species before any treatment.
